Terms & Conditions

All students must provide a signed waiver form at the time of their lesson. You can download and print our Waiver Form here to fill out and bring to the first lesson. We also have waivers available on location at the lesson/camp.



To complete any booking we require payment in full.

Surf Lessons


Cancellation/Reschedule Policy: Full payment is due in advance. Students that haven’t arrived at their scheduled lesson and cannot be reached by phone are considered no-shows 20 minutes after the scheduled lesson start time (call if you are running late and we will do our best to accommodate you -we want your experience to be a great one!). Lessons that start late due to late student arrival will end at the originally scheduled time unless other arrangements are made.


All reschedules and cancellations must be made at least 72 hours in advance via email to receive full payment credit. If made less than 72 hours before the scheduled time, they must also be made and confirmed by phone.

  • Lessons rescheduled more than 48 hours prior to the scheduled lesson start time will receive full credit of the lesson fee.
  • Lessons that are rescheduled less than 48 hours before the scheduled time will receive 0% credit of the lesson fee.


  • Lessons cancelled more than 72 hours in advance will be refunded 100% of the lesson fee, minus a $50 cancellation fee.
  • Lessons cancelled more than 48 hours in advance will be refunded 50% of the lesson fee.
  • Lessons cancelled less than 48 hours in advance will receive no refund nor credit.

Lessons cancelled/rescheduled after the scheduled start time will receive no credit nor refund.

Surf Camp



Cancellation/Reschedule Policy: All camp registrations require payment in full.


All reschedules must be made at least 72 hours in advance online or via email, or, if less than 72 hours before the scheduled time, they must be made by email and phone. Any surf camp session that is rescheduled less than 72 hours before the scheduled time will be charged a $35 reschedule fee per student. We do not provide reschedules for camp scheduled for the same day – such situations are considered no-shows and payment is forfeit.


Camp cancelled after the scheduled start time will not be refunded (this includes no-shows). Camp cancelled within 72 hours of the scheduled start time will be refunded 50% of the camp fee. Camp cancelled more than 72 hours in advance will be refunded in full minus a $50 processing fee.

Make Up Days:
Learn to Surf LA allows up to 2 sick days to be made up per season.

Extended Care:
Early drop-off and late pickup must be arranged in advance. If we have no early drop-offs or late pickups scheduled, we will be ready to accept campers no earlier than 9:00am and will not be available to monitor them any later than 4pm. Early drop-off starts no earlier than 8am, and late pickup ends no later than 5pm. Should Learn to Surf LA staff need to stay any additional time after 4pm to ensure a student’s safety until they are picked up by a parent or guardian, there will be an additional fee of $7.50/child for each 30 minutes or fraction thereof staff must wait after 4pm for a late pickup. If this fee is not paid at the beach it will be charged to the credit card on file for surf camp.

Surf Camp Behavior Policy


In the best interest of all participants of Learn to Surf LA Surf Camp, all surf campers must adhere to acceptable standards of behavior. Failure of a camper to stay within bounds of acceptable behavior can result in their immediate dismissal from surf camp. Unacceptable behavior that can result in dismissal from camp includes use of obscene language, failure to follow the instructions of camp staff, abusive or aggressive behavior towards other campers or staff, violent behavior, disruption or obstruction of camp activities and/or instruction, lewd acts or any otherwise deemed inappropriate behavior. While we do not want to exclude anyone, we must maintain a safe respectful environment conducive to a successful surf camp for everyone. Camp staff will use their best judgement in any such situations, and in the event that any camper is dismissed, the prorated remainder of their paid camp will be refunded. They will not be refunded for the day they are dismissed.


Cancellation due to insufficient enrollment: In the event that there are insufficient enrollments in any week or day of camp, we may cancel camp for that day or week. In such an event, we will refund in full any fees paid for the cancelled period of camp. We will provide as much notice as possible, though it is possible notification may come as late as the day prior.



All equipment rental fees must be paid in full in advance. All equipment rental fees are final and are non-refundable.

Gift Certificates


All gift certificate sales are final and are non-refundable.



All transactions are handled in US dollars, and Learn to Surf LA is not responsible for any fluctuations in currency exchange rates that may affect the value of any payments and/or refunds. In the event that a payment or partial payment is refunded you, your refund will take place in one of the following ways:

  • If you paid using a PayPal balance or account, the refund will be credited to your PayPal balance.
  • If you paid with a credit or debit card within the last 60 days, the refund will be credited to your card. Depending on the card issuer, it can take up to 30 days for your refund to appear on your statement, depending on your credit card issuer..
  • If more than 60 days have passed since you made your credit card payment and you do not have a Paypal account we can transfer a refund to, we will not be able to refund directly to your card, and will mail a check to an address you provide within the US instead, minus a $25 processing fee. If you cannot provide an address within the US for us to send a check to, we will not be able to mail you a check, and you will need to create a Paypal account for us to transfer the full refund to you.


Double charges: In the unlikely event that while registering online, the payment processing page is either reloaded or a the page is opened in a new window while the payment is processing, and in the event that this action results in a double charge on your credit card as it states it could on that same payment processing page, you should notify us by email, and we will process a refund for you within 5 business days (please note, as mentioned above, this process can take up to 30 days to complete, depending on your credit card issuer).


In the event that the terms and conditions above are not observed, but instead a charge-back is initiated through the registrants credit card company, the registrant will be assessed a $35 charge-back fee which will be charged to the same credit card in order to cover the additional expense created by the charge-back.


PLEASE NOTE: We have been operating since 2002 and always take care of our customers! Let us take care of you! Communicate with us if there is ever a concern and we will do our best to make sure everything is sorted out in the best possible way.

Surf Conditions


Ocean conditions will vary from day to day, and from hour to hour. We are an experienced surf school that has been operating in and around Santa Monica Bay since 2002, and we are very familiar with the range of conditions on the beaches we teach on, as well as the seasonal effects of the tides and currents on them. We schedule our lessons and our camp activities around the rhythms of the ocean to ensure the best possible conditions for learning. By using our services, you agree to defer to our judgement in this regard, and there will be no refunds, exchanges, or reschedules due to conditions unless we deem them to be unworkable or unsafe.


Learn to Surf LA may at any time contact you to reschedule your surf lesson if for any unforeseen reason we are unable to accommodate you at your scheduled time. All lessons and availability are subject to change and/or cancellation. The vast majority (more than 99%) of our surf lessons take place at the time requested and confirmed, and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience should we need to reschedule you. In the event we do need to reschedule you, please be advised that our policies regarding reschedules initiated by the student (indicated above) remain intact.


Learn to Surf LA reserves the right to cancel any services if we deem the conditions to be unsafe or if minimum enrollments are not met. In the event of such a cancellation, all services will be either rescheduled or fully refunded according to the terms listed above under REFUNDS.


Learn to Surf LA is not responsible for any expenses incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations or illness/sickness, or surf lesson cancellations.


Learn to Surf LA reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.
